Son of Thomas and Ellen

The Tumut Advocate and Farmers and Settlers' Adviser (NSW : 1903 - 1925) Tue 27 Aug 1918
THE LATE MR THOMAS MCINERNEY.
THE sudden demise of Mr Thomas McInerney, of " Willow Glen," Gilmore Valley, on the morning of 18th removes from the midst of the community one of the old pioneers of the district, and a much esteemed settler, a peaceable neighbor, and a genial acquaintance. On the morning of his death he arose at the usual hour, ate a hearty breakfast and was in the best of spirits. Half an hour later he was standing conversing with his daughter and Mr R. J. G. Try (who with his wife and family reside at " Willow Glen "), when he suddenly dropped dead. For the previous few months he had not been in good health, and was under the treatment of Dr Browne, appearing to improve under his care, and on the Saturday seemed almost his normal self. The happening was a dreadful shock to these at home and the relatives away, they having no suspicion that his end was so near, though he was 71 years of age. The subject of this obituary was born in the year 1847, at Ennis, County Clare, Ireland, and sailed for Australia in 1863. On arrival in Sunny New South Wales, he entered the employ of Messrs Shelley Bros, of Tumut Plains. Later he married Miss Annie Corry, sister of Mr John Corry, at Tumut, and for nine years settled at Tarrabandra. Leaving there be purchased from Mr John McNamara the home on which he died and where he had lived for 34 years, rearing a family of four daughters and one son, viz: Miss Julia (Tumut), Mrs Edwin O'Sullivan and Misses Bridget and Mary (Gilmore), and Patrick (Gundagai), all of whom survive him ; also two sisters, Mrs. Burke of Wagra and Mrs.Rogers of Wagga. His wife predeceased him by nine years, and a strange feature about the two deaths is that they both occurred suddenly on a Sunday morning. His only brother died about two years ago. The children have lost a most considerate and homely father, the sisters an affectionate brother, and Gilmore a familiar face, which will be greatly missed. We join with his large circle of friends in extending sympathy to the bereaved. The funeral took place on Monday of last week. A large cortege showed the last tribute of respect to the departed at the grave side, where Rev Fr Sharkey ministered the burial rites. The funeral arrangements were under the capable direction of Messrs Masters Bros.
