OBITUARY
MRS. SARAH E. ROBSON The passing of Sarah Emily Robson, wife of Mr. Edward Robson, at the age of 80 years, removes from Windowie, Gilmore, one of it's most popular residents. Born at Windowie, she has spent a useful lifetime there. The subject of the obituary took a very active interest in all organisations in the district and her energy knew no bounds. No appeal for help was ever turned down. Her generosity and hospitality were known far and wide and the hand of friendship was extended to one and all. No kinder neighbour ever existed and she would travel many miles in all weathers to attend a sick neighbour and never went empty handed. She was loved by children in general, and highly respected by adults. Her charming, kindly manner won her a legion of friends. Was never known to harshly criticise the actions of anyone and always found words of comfort and sympathy through troublesome times. Her company was sought wherever she went. As a Red Cross worker ever since the 1914 out break of war, she toiled untiringly for the soldiers until her health gave way, some few years ago, and she was ordered by her doctor to go quietly. She was a devout member of the Church of England, and a regular attendant when well enough. During the building of St. Jude's Church at Gilmore, the late Mrs Robson was an ardent worker and generous supporter and gave all the assistance and encouragement possible to the responsible officers who carried on that noble work. The C.W.A. have much to thank the late Mrs. Robson for, as she was also a genuine worker and took an active and intelligent interest in tills very useful organisation. She was vice-president of the Tumut Branch at the time of her death. The Gilmore Branch of the Agricultural Bureau owes a deep debt of gratitude for the many years of faithful work so ably rendered by its esteemed friend, both she and her husband were life honorary members of the branch, and incidentally were foundation members, just 24 years ago. Mrs. Robson was a great helpmate to her husband and was a kind, considerate and loving wife. To the husband and relatives we extend our sincere sympathy. Besides a sorrowing husband who is left to mourn, are sisters and brother, Mrs H. Warburton (Sydney), Mrs P. Webber (Sydney), Mrs Farthing (Sydney) and Mr. Alfred Richards (Tumut). The funeral left from All Saint's Church, Tumut, after a short service conducted by Rev. S. Broadfoot, on Friday afternoon, for the C. of E. portion of the Tumut New Cemetery. Rev. Broadfoot officiated at the graveside, whilst Mr. C. W. Burt had charge of the mortuary arrangements. The pallbearers were Messrs. Cliff and Ross Weeden, Fred Piper, Alf. Richards, Jas. Davis and Arthur Davis. The Tumut and Adelong Times (NSW : 1864 - 1867; 1899 - 1950)Tuesday 19 November 1946 |
