STEPHEN DEAN
Mr. Stephen Dean, a pioneer of the Tumut district, died on December 8, aged 85. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dean and came from England to Australia when an infant and had remained in Tumut all his life. He followed the trade of a bricklayer, and was a particularly smart and capable tradesman, many of the old brick buildings throughout the Tumut district, as well as later-day ones, being part of his handicraft. When about 23 years of age he married Mary Crouch, daughter of the late Robert Crouch, of Adelong, who predeceased him by nine years. There was a family of seven children, of whom five survive, viz: Carry (Adelong), Robert, Walter, Hilda (Mrs. Clarrie Regent), of Tumut, and Mervyn, of Gosford. Two predeceased him.

FUNERAL OF THE LATE MR. STEPHEN DEAN
The remains of the late Mr. Stephen Dean, whose death was in last issue recorded as having taken place at his home in Tumut on Thursday last, at the age of 85 years, were laid to rest in the Presbyterian portion of the Old Cemetery on Friday last. Rev. Hilton Thomas (Presbyterian Church, Harden-Murrumburrah) officiated at the graveside and Mr. C. W. Burt directed the funeral and burial. The pall-bearers were four sons (Harry, Robert, Walter and Mervyn), son-in-law (Mr. Clarrie Regent) and grandson-in-law (Mr. Joe Brown).
