The death occurred at the Wagga District Hospital yesterday at the age of 87 years, of Mrs. Augusta Maria Brooks (nee Brooks), of 'Hill- view,' Umbango, relict of Mr. Henry Brooks, who died 43 years ago. The deceased leaves a family of three sons and four daughters — Messrs. Henry Richard William, of Dapto; James Herbert, of Oberoe; Frederick Edward, of 'Hillview,' Umibango; Mrs. John Faulks, of Haberfield, Sydney; Mrs. Arthur Brown, of Brisbane; Mrs. John Brown, of Haberfield, Sydney; and Mrs. H. O. L. Wilkinson, Tumut; and 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Brooks, who was born at Gejedzerick, Monaro, lived 70 years in the Monaro district, during which time she became very popular for her bright personality and many acts of kindness. Later she lived for two years in Queensland, and for 15 years at Oberne and Umbango. Her mother, the late Mrs. Richard Brooks, was the first white woman on the Monaro. The funeral will leave Wagga at 9 o'clock this morning for the Church of England cemetery, Humula, where the burial will take place at noon.

The funeral of Mrs. Augusta Maria Brooks, of "Hillview," Embargo, widow of Mr. Henry Brooks, of Spring Vale, Monaro, took place yesterday, leaving Messrs. McIntosh Brothers mortuary by motor hearse at 9 o'clock, for the Church of England cemetery, Humula.

On passing, the Umbargo Public School the Union Jack was fly ing at half-mast as a mark of respect for the deceased lady, who had always taken a kindly interest in the children's welfare. From "Hillview" many relatives and friends followed the hearse to the cemetery.

The carriers were Messrs James Edward Brooks (son), James E. Cox, M. A. Reeckmann, and James Nugent, junr. The pall-hearers were Messrs. Dudley Bardwell, Frederick Willis, Thomas Cox, John Bellman, Robert Haggan, and Adolphus Reeckmann.

The Rev. W. Blackwell, rector of Tarcutta, officiated at the graveside. The chief mourners present were Messrs James Herbert Brooks, of Oberne, Frederick Edward Brooks, of "Hillview" (sons), Mrs. H. O. L. Wilkinson, of Tumut (daughter), and John Brooks (grandson). Many floral tributes were placed on the coffin.
The funeral arrangements were entrusted to Messrs McIntosh Brothers, of Wagga.
