Obituary MR. EDGAR JOHN NUTTALL Citizens of Tumut and district were profoundly shocked at the sudden death on Saturday afternoon last of Mr. Edgar John Nuttall, of Fitzroy Street, Tumut, who was a member of a working bee in the grounds of All Saints' Church of England. He had stopped for a rest from work on lopping one of the trees when he suddenly collapsed. The ambulance was called and conveyed Mr. Nuttall to the District Hospital but on arrival he was found to have passed away. Deceased had been receiving treatment for blood pressure and heart trouble for the past two years but otherwise enjoyed good health. The late Mr. Nuttall was born at Tumut sixty years ago and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ike Nuttall, of Tumut Plains, and later of Tarrabandra. With his brother Harry, Mr. John Nuttall leased their parents' farming property at Tarrabandra which they carried on for several years in partnership. Relinguishing their farming interests they returned to Tumut and became interested in racehorses as owners and trainers. Their most successful horse was Rose Shot which won the Goulburn Cup race in 1922. Tiring of this, the subject of this obituary accepted a position with Weedens Ltd, driving their store cart for about five years. Later, he became licensee of the Tumut Wine Saloon which he conducted for three years before selling out to Mr. Fred Johnson in 1938. In later years he worked on various farming properties in the district and was for some time at Mr. F. W. Hughes' 'Coleman' property. For the past six months he had been in the employ of the Tumut Shire Council. The late Mr. Nuttall was a keen cricketer and was a member of the former Billiard Room Club. He was a member of the district team which played Allan Kippax's team, including Don Bradman, when it visited Tumut in the early 1930's. He was also interested in Rugby Union football in his youth. He married Miss Ella Johnson, a daughter of Mrs. E. A. Johnson, of Jones Bridge, Blowering, who, together with one daughter Betty, is left to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father. Brothers and sisters surviving are William, Fred, Harry, Arthur and Ted Nuttall (Tumut), Bertha (Mrs. Graham, Glebe Point), Miss Ett Nuttall (Bombowlee) and Ada (Mrs. C. Lusty. Waverley) Deceased was a quiet living man who was ever-erady to assist his neighbors and those around him.
