The death, under sad circumstances, of Mrs. S. M. McGuigan (nee Miss Dotie Downing, daughter of Mr. 'Michael Downing, Simpson-st., Tumut), of Cootamundra, where she had resided ever since her marriage, occurred at the residence of her father and Nurse L. Downing, on Wednesday last. She had not been well for some time previous, and about five months ago came home for a change and rest. Two months ago Mrs. McGuigan gave birth to a child, and some three weeks later thrombosis set in, to which she succumbed. She was home at the time of her mother's death, which caused her a great shock. Her age was 32. Deceased had the best medical service that Drs. Browne and Clouston could render, and was nursed attentively throughout her illness by her sister, Nurse Lil. Downing, who later was assisted by her aunt, Mrs. Sheahan, and her cousin, Nurse Sheahan. Rev. Fr. Sharkey and Kinane and the good Sisters of Mercy were in attendance regularly ministering spiritual consolation. There are left to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and a tender mother, a sorrowing husband and six small children, the eldest being eight years and the youngest two months. The funeral took place on Thursday afternoon, the remains being interred in the Roman Catholic portion of the old cemetery alongside those of her late mother's Rev. Frs. Sharkey, P.P., and Kinane officiated at the grave side. The pall-bearers were Messrs Chas., Matt. and Fred. Downing (uncles), Robert Sheahan and Fred. Downing (cousins) and Thos. McGuigan (brother-in-law). Many beautiful wreaths bestrewed the coffin.
