COOMA CRIME. --» Coroner's Verdict. DEAD MAN'S GUILT. COOMA, Monday The District Coroner (Mr H S Solomon) held an Inquest to-day on Eileen Hain and Ettie Tucker who were shot at the residence of Mr H R Hain, The Willows on Wednesday and on Robert Edward Audley who was In the employ of Hain and whose Body was found hanging from a tree In a paddock about 15 miles from Cooma on the Nlmttybelle road The Coroner found that Mrs Hain and Miss Tucker had died from gunshot wounds feloniously Inflicted by Audley and that Audley had died from strangulation.
Harry Rostron Hain auctioneer and grazier, said he was 40 miles from Cooma when he received news of the tragedy at his home Audley had worked three months for him as a farm hand and appeared normal He had paid him wages up to July 16 He (Hain) had left home on July 20 He had given Audley permission on July 19 to go to Nimitybelle where his wife lived Audley returned on July 20 Detective-sergeant McRae of Sydney, said he thought Mrs Hain had been shot In the back, and then in the head Miss Tucker appeared to have been shot when going to the telephone He found blood-stained trousers and a towel in Audley's bedroom In the cottage where he lived close to the homestead He found three cartridge shells In the yard near the house, and the gun case In the shed but could not find the gun which belonged to Mr Hain Audley's body and Halns's motor car were found about 15 miles from Cooma He (witness) assumed that the motive for the crime was the stealing of the motor car The police records showed that Audley had been arrested on a previous occasion and charged with having used a car without the consent of the owner Audley had also been wanted on a false pretences charge.
Anstice Audley, wife of Robert Edward Audley gave evidence that on July 19 Audley said to her 'I have a good mind to take the car where I am working and I will very likely go down over the mountain.'
