Son of John and Margaret nee Donohoe Married Margaret H. McKey in 1902 at Tumut with 7 children born of this union. Excerpt From: The Catholic Press (Sydney, NSW : 1895 - 1942) Thu 11 Jul 1935 Gocup. Death of Mr. John Millay. The death of Mr. John Millay, at his residence at Gocup, removes one of the most outstanding personalities the Tumut district has known. For some considerable time he had been receiving medical attention, but he fought against his ill-health with a courage, cheerfulness and will that was remarkable, pursuing his daily calling right to the last. On the day of his death he suffered a heart attack. Rev. Father Comerford and Dr. Harbison_ were soon present to administer all the spiritual and medical assistance possible, but the end came in the afternoon as the Rosary was being recited. The late Mr. Millay was born at Gocup in 1868, where his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Millay, shortly after arriving from Ireland, selected portion of the land, upon which their son lived and died. All parts of the district were represented at the funeral, which left the church for the new cemetery, after prayers for the dead had been recited by Dean Sharkey, assisted by the Rev. Fathers Butler, Raymond, C.P., Comerford, Blakeney, and Brother Placid, C.P., who also officiated at the graveside. The coffin was borne to the hearse through a double line of school children by Messrs. Kevin McKey (brtother-in-law), D. Clee, Jas. Brennan, M. McEvoy, and Egan (2), and at the entrance to the cemetery a guard was formed of Hibernians in regalia.— R.I.P. |
