Note 8: Reg No 7080/1872 - parents Edward and Sarah Hardy - age 71 The Empire 6 Aug 1872 A report reached Melbourne on the 31st July, that Mr. Thomas Wills, of Bellevue, a well-known old colonist, had died during the day. In the early days of Port Phillip he took a very prominent part in public affairs and before separation he was generally considered amongst the most wealthy of the early settlers. After the marriage of his daughter to Major Conran, who at that time was, Commander of the Forces, subsequently held the position of aide-de- camp to Mr. Latrobe, and Sergeant-at-arm to the first Legislative Council, Mr. Wills paid a lengthy visit to Europe and, since his return has lived in comparative retirement. His brother, Mr. Horatio Wills, who formerly represented South Grant. was killed by the Queensland natives, and his nephew is Thomas Wills, the well-known cricketer. The Argus (Melbourne) 1 Aug 1872 DEATHS WILLS.-On the 20th ult., at his residence, Willsmere, Kew, Thomas Wills, Esq., aged 72 years.
