Mr Lewis was a former resident of Bendigo, where he became associated with many welfare movements, and took a keen part in assisting the cause of Federation. In Melbourne he was a member of many progressive bodies, and was a warm advocate of the Greater Melbourne movement. As a lay member of the Church of Eng land he was formerly associated with the movement for church union, and was notable for his persistent enthu siasm in any cause in which he be lieved. He was 59 years of age.
