THE LATE MRS. LIONEL LEWIS.
On the 4th April, 1919, at Chomley-street,
East Windsor, Laura Ethel, wife of Lionel
Lewis, died suddenly. She will be remem
bered as Miss Ethel Hocking throughout
Geelong and district. On many occasions
audiences have enjoyed the recitals given
by herself and her pupils. Elocutionary
judges testified to her gifts and talents.
The cause of her death was cerebral hemorr
hage, the attack occurring at about 10
o'clock on Thursday evening. Mrs. Lewis
died without having regained conscious
ness. The funeral took place at the ceme
tery at Spring Vale on Saturday afternoon,
the burial service of the Church of Eng
land was read by the Rev J. W. Ashton,
of All Saints' Church, East St. Kilda; he
had celebrated her marriage on the 9th
April. 1912 (Easter Tuesday) at that church.

Mr Lionel Lewis, managing law
clerk, who was ,well known in legal
circles in the city, died this week at
the residence of Mrs E Campbell, his
sister; in Essendon, and was buried
in the Brighton Cemetery. Mr Lewis
was a former resident of Bendigo,
where he became associated with
many welfare movements, and took a
keen part in assisting the cause of
Federation. In Melbourne he was
a member of many progressive bodies,
and was a warm advocate of the
Greater Melbourne movement. As a
lay member of the Church of Eng
land he was formerly associated with
the movement for church union, and
was notable for his persistent enthu
siasm in any cause in which he be
lieved. He was 59 years of age.

residence of his sister (Mrs. Campbell), 40 Robb
street, Essendon, Lionel, eldest son of the late
George and Emily Lewis, of St. Kilda and Bendigo,
