James Haydock Reibey (1798–1843)

James Haydock Reibey was the son of Thomas Reibey and Mary Haydock. He was born on 2 October 1798 at Sydney. He moved to Tasmania some time between 1811-1816 and married Rebecca Doyle/Devine on 25 March 1816 at St David's Hobart.

Reibey worked as a general merchant and commission agent at Launceston with his older brother Thomas and also engaged in sealing and other coastal shipping activities. He died on 11 September 1843. His occupation was given as 'gentleman'; his cause of death as 'dropsy'; and his age as 45.

Rebecca Reibey (1794–1854)

Rebecca Doyle (1794-1854), the daughter of Thomas Tennant/Philip Devine and Ann Doyle, was born on 16 May 1794 at Norfolk Island. Her parents separated some time between 1798 and 1805 and her mother began living with William Parsons whom she married in 1812. William Parsons, Ann Doyle and three of her children (the oldest, Edward had left the island with his father in 1805) moved to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) in 1808 on the City of Edinburgh.

Rebecca married Joseph Edward Breedon at St David's Hobart on 2 June 1810. Following his death in 1812 she married James Haydock Reibey on 25 March 1816 at St David's Church. She died on 3 July 1854 at Hadspen, near Launceston.

sell by auction, upon the premises in
William-street, on FRIDAY, the 15th
September, at 12 o'clock,
A LL THAT excccdingly VALUABLE
Situated PROPERTY In William
street, late occupied by Mrs. Reiboy, which
will be submitted in the following order:
Lot 1 will comprise the commodious and
well arranged dwelling-house, in the
occupation of Mr. F. W. Townley ;
the houso contains six apartments of
good dimensions, besides detached
kitchen and other domestic oflices; the
whole contained in a large allotment
of ground, having a frontage upon
William-street of 65 feet or there
abouts, with side lines of 172 and,186
feet or thereabouts.
Lot 2, An allotment adiolning the above,
having a frontago of 50 feet or there
abouts upon William-street, with side
lines similar to those of Lot 1.
Lot. 3 comprises that extensive and
highly desirable family residence lately
occupied by Mrs. Reibey, together
with a largo allotment of ground,
having a frontage of 75 feet or there
abouts upon William-street, and ex
tending backwards 175 feet or there
abouts. The house is most pleasantly
situate, standing well off tl1e street;
it is substantially built, and has lately
been newly shiugled. The Internal
arrangements are excellent, having six
apartments of good proportions, beo
sides detached kitchenou, store-room,
pantry, and other domestcl buildings.
There is a large and well-stocked
garden in the rear.
Lot 4. Adjoins lot 8, and comprises
that portion of the house last erected
-to which it is attached-the building
contains two rooms. Thls lot will
have a frontage upon William-street
of 44 feet or thereabouts; is bounded
on one side by the new building lately
erected by government, at present used
as a depot, and extends back 175 feet
or thereabouts.
This property, from its locality, cannot
fall to be of Improving value; its proximity
to the wharf. and otherwise favorable posl
tlon for business purposes, renders It highly
desirable, and presents an opportunity to
capitalists and others seeking for safe and
certain good investments rarely offered.
Title, a new grant.
Terms :-Twenty-five per cent. cash de
posit, at the time of sale; the balance at
six nid twelve aontlls, secured upon the
respective lots, bearing Interest at six per
cent.
