THE DAILY MERCURY. 18th AUGUST 1908.
THE death yesterday afternoon at Walkerston of Mrs Hill, a well known resident of this district will be heard by her many friends of regret, although she had attained more than her allotted three score & ten years. On her death, Mrs Hill was 88 years of age. Mrs Hill was the wife of the late Mr. R. Hill who predeceased her about eight years ago. Mrs. Hill & her husband were among the early settlers in this district. They came to Mackay in the year 1862 & for many years kept the Retreat Hotel at Mt. Spencer. Until recently, Mrs Hill lived privately. She had been ailing for almost six weeks. The deceased lady had endeared herself to a large circle of friends & was highly respected by all those who knew her. She leaves two grown up sons to mourn their loss. The funeral will leave from her late residence at Walkerston this afternoon at 3 o'clock for the Walkerston cemetery.
