Mr. A. C. McDonnell
The death occurred at Tumut District Hospital on Saturday, October 23, of Mr. Aeneas Colin (Col) McDonnell, of Sydney Street, Tumut. Mr. McDonnell, who had celebrated his birthday the previous week — October 13 — was born at Tumut, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. S. McDonnell, and had spent most of his life in the district. He will be remembered by the old hands of the district as a well known jockey at most of the unregistered meetings in the Riverina, and also spent some time in the employ of the late Dr. H. W. Mason in the care of his horses. However, in recent years he had been more or less an invalid, and has been in hospital on occasions, whilst for two years he suffered from a heart condition. His wife, formerly Miss Carrie Bennett, of Molong, has been assiduous in her care and devotion. Following a seizure on Wednesday October 20, he was admitted to hospital and passed away. Besides his widow, he is survived by four brothers and four sisters Charles E. S. (Tumut), Jack (Argalong), Leslie and Arthur (Sydney) Jessie (Mrs. Harry Lowther, Bombowlee), Reggie (Mrs. M. French, Bankstown), Margaret (Mrs. Kelly, Muttama), Ruby (Mrs. R. Steward, Rosehill). Two sisters, Mesdames Charles Jones and Tom Piper, and a youngbrother who died in infancy predeceased him. The funeral took place in the Catholic portion of the new cemetery on the Sunday afternoon following his death, Rev. Fr. Commins officiating and Mr. Reg Baker (Est. H. W. Baker) having charge of the funeral arrangements . The pallbearers were Messrs. D. McConnell, E. McDonnell, M. French, S Piper, H. Chave and M. Harmer.
