GLEE— BASSETT A wedding was celebrated at Tumut in All Saints' Church of England at 6.30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, when the Rev. F. W. Rettie joined in marriage Doreen May, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Bassett, of Newtown, Tumut, and Percy Edward, second youngest son of Mr. R. Clee and the late Mr. R. Clee, of 'Meadow Creek,' Gocup. The church was artiscally decorated by friends of the bride with white chrysanthemums and a large wedding bell. Miss E. R. Bridle presided at the organ. There were about 400 present at the church. The bride entered the church, escorted by her father, to the strains of Wagner's 'Bridal March,' and as they walked up the aisle the choir sang 'The Voice that Breathed o'er Eden. The bride looked charming, wearing an ankle lengthy gown of chantille lace and georgette, over white satin, and the customary wreath and veil, carrying a bouquet of white cactus dahlias, white chrysanthemums, pink rosebuds, asparagus fern and snowberry, tied with pink chiffon streamers. Miss Vera Saunders, of Albury (cousin of the bride), was bridesmaid, and was daintily attired in ankle length shell pink georgette, relieved with velvet flowers, her bouquet being of roses, salvia, asparagus fern, and daisies, tied with tulle. The bouquets, which were made by Miss E. Carr, were the gift of the bridegroom. The bridegroom -was attended by his brother, Mr. Norman A. Clee. As the bride and bridegroom were kneeling at the altar, the choir rendered 'O Perfect Love.' During the signing of the register, selections were played on the organ, and as the bridal party left the church Mendelssohn's 'Wedding March' was played. The reception was held at the Blue Bird Cafe, where the bride's mother received about 40 guests, in a frock of navy blue morocain, relieved with white hat and shoes to match, and carried a posy of rosebuds. The bridegroom's mother wore black georgette and lace with hat to match. The Rev, F. W. Rettie presided at the breakfast. The tables were decorated with beautiful chrysanthemums and dahlias and the usual roses were honoured. The toast of the King was proposed by the chairman. The toast of the bride and bridegroom - which was entrusted to the Rev Rettie was replied to by the bridegroom. The toast of the bridesmaid was proposed by the bridegroom, to which the best man responded on behalf of the bridesmaid. The toast of the parents of the bride and bridegroom was in the hands of Mr. R. R. Quarmby, to which Mr. J. T. Bassett responded. Mr. A. Wilkie Watson proposed the toast of the chairman, to which the Rev. Rettie respouded. The couple left that evening by motor car for their honeymoon, which is being spent touring in Victoria, the bride's travelling dress being nigger brown morocain, relieved with orange; hat, shoes, and bag to match. The bride's gift to the bridegroom was a set or gold engraved sleeve links and studs, and the bridegrooms gift to the bride an engraved gold wristlet watch, and to the bridesmaid a hand painted pink pearl toilet set. The couple were the recipients of many beautiful and valuable presents. Their future home will be at Tumut. Daily Advertiser (Wagga Wagga, NSW : 1911 - 1954)Saturday 30 April 1932 |
