Grandchildren of two of the oldest families in the Tumut district—the Backs and the Naughtons—were united in hymeneal bonds by the Very Rev. Dean J. Sharkey, P.P., at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Tumut, on Wednesday morning last, the contracting parties being Mary Jean, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs Albert Edward Back, of Upper Gilmore, and James William, eldest son of the late James Naughton and of Mrs Naughton, "The Poplars," Gilmore. Escorted to the altar by her father, the bride was elegantly attired, in pale pink satin, the veil (lent by the bridegroom's sister, Mrs Thos. Beattie) being clasped by a circlet of orange blossoms, and her bouquet being composed of radiance roses, sweet peas and hyacinths. Miss Myrtle Back (bride's sister), the bridesmaid, wore very pale pink organdi and felt hat, her bouquet being of purple pansies, violets and pale mauve sweetpeas. The best man was Mr. Victor Naughton (bridegroom's brother). Nuptial Mass was celebrated at the close of the ceremony, and during the signing of the register Mrs P. B. Madigan, organist, sang Hoben's "Ave Maria". Mrs A. L. Davis' Blue Bird Tea Rooms was the scene of the reception and wedding breakfast, the guests being confined to near relatives and most intimate friends of the families involved. The mother of the bride, frocked in black marocain relieved with white, and holding a posy of red roses, was assisted by the 'groom's mother, in black marocain ensemble, and carrying a posy of primroses, received them. After the customary toasts had been duly proposed and responded to, Dean Sharkey presiding and making appropriate reference to the uniting of members of such old and esteemed families, all natives of the district, the newly weds left by car, amid showers of confetti, on a honeymoon tour through the South Coast, the bride travelling in a new-blue wool-de-chene assemble, hat to tone. They return to Upper Gilmore to take up their permanent residence at"Dincolly".
