Mr. F. "W. Vyner, the district coroner, held an inquest at Lacmalac, on the 19th instant, on the body of a little boy named "William Day, about 9 years of age, who died from the effects of a snake bite. The lad on Sunday was sent by his father to collect some pigs in a paddock and bring them home ; shortly after his father heard the boy scream, and on going to him found that he had trodden on a snake, but did not appear to have been bitten. The lad, who was barefooted, was much frightened, his father and a visitor examined him well, and put him to bed. After eating a meal he suddenly fell off the bed and appeared to be asleep. He died without a struggle. Dr. Verschner, who made a post-mortem examination,said tho case was undoubtedly one of death from snake-poison, though he was unable to detect the wound caused by the bite of the reptile.
