Somewhere about 80 years ago an adventurous Englishman named Quarmby went to the diggings around Kiandra, and raised a family there, and, later, at Batlow. Today there are scores of Quarmbys scattered all over the State — but the last of the old pioneer's own family tribe passed to his reward the other day at Tumut. He was Harry, aged 83, born at Kiandra, but, since the age of two, resident at Batlow, where he was one of the pioneer orchardists. He had witnessed some striking changes in that neck of the woods in the 81 years spent there.
