Marion Hamilton was the 4th child born to Matthew Hamilton and Margaret Hastie in 1858 at Adelong. She married Walter William Jones at the Wesleyan Parsonage Cootamundra on the 16th December 1879. They had 3 children ; Walter Henry Jones born 13th November 1880 at Cootamundra NSW, Edith Jones born 5th January 1885 at Tarago NSW and Alice Jones born 9th September 1886 at Cowra NSW.
Family research indicates that sometime between September 1886 and April 1888 Walter Willaim Jones changed his name to Robert Thompson. Marion and the 3 children also changed their surnames to Thompson. On the 4th April 1888 they had a child Florence Elizabeth Thompson born at Ringwood Victoria however this daughter passed on the 26th November 1889 at Warragul Victoria. Two other childeren were born, Ethel Maud Thompson on 12th June 1891 at Culcairn NSW and William Thompson born 15th December 1893 at Manildra NSW.
The family moved around as Marion's husband worked on the railways that were being established in those years.
