KERANG, TUESDAY.
An inquiry into the cause of the death of a
young woman named Isabella Masterton,
aged 22, who was found dead against a fence
on the 19th inst., was held at Cohuna yester-
day, before Mr. A. Kirwin, J.P. Seven wit-
nesses gave evidence at the inquiry. Dr.
Wakefield, who made the post-mortem exami-
nation, stated that deceased was suffering from
consumption, and had died from rupture
of a blood vessel of the lungs. The finding
was in accordance with this evidence. De-
ceased has friends living at Kyneton.

COHUNA.
(FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT.)
On the 27th ult. Mr Alexander Mas-
terton passed away at his son's (James
Masterton) residence at the ripe age of
74 years. He has been many years a
resident of Kyneton, but finding his
health rapidly failing, he came to reside
at Cohuna. He was formerly a large con-
tractor in the Kyneton district and an
active member of the Kyneton cavalry.
His two daughters residing in this dis-
trict are Mrs W. C. Hall, of Cohuna, and
Mrs George Hall, of Koroop. Two other
daughters are married and reside in Mel-
bourne. His remains were interred in
the Kyneton cemetery on Tuesday, many
old residents by whom he was so highly
respected following the remains to the
grave.

We regret having to record. the
death, at Mrs. Haberley's Home, in
Watkins street, Morgans, on Wednesday,
of James Melvilla Birkin, aged
12 days. Much sympathy is felt for
the bereaved parents, who are widely
known and much respected. The remains
were interred in the local cemetery
on Wednesday afternoon. The
Rev John Lee officiated at the grave.
