Note 2: Burial info DEATH OF AN OLD COLONIST. The Cootamundra Herald, of Saturday, says : — It is with deep regret that we have to chronicle the death, at the advanced age of 74 years, of Mrs. Plunkett, of Bethungra, mother of Mr. Gunning F. Plunkett (president of the New South Wales Farmers' and Settlers' Association) and Mrs. C. S. Smith, of Bethungra. It was reported in our last issue that she was seriously ill on Monday last, on which day very small hopes were given of her recovery ; but, however, on Tuesday she took a great change for the better, and seemed to be thoroughly on the mend. In consequence her death, which occurred at 10 o'clock on Wednesday night, came as a shock to her many relations and friends. The deceased lady had been suffering for some time from the effects of a severe cold, and despite skilful medical aid and every care and attention from members of her family and friends, she finally succumbed. She was the wife of the late Mr. G. A. Pluckett, who in 1879 was appointed from Gulgong to take charge of the Bethungra public school, and he remained in that position up to the time of his death, his wife being appointed his successor. After remaining in charge for some time Mrs. Plunkett resigned in favour of her youngest son, Frederick, who, being attacked with the dreaded disease of consumption, died after being teacher of the school for about 12 months. Ever since resigning her position as public school teacher Mrs. Plunkett had been, up to the time of her death, living privately at Bethungra. She was the mother of seven children, five of whom are still living. The funeral took place yesterday, when her remains, which were followed to the grave by a large number of mournful relatives and sorrowful friends, were interred in the Roman Catholic portion of the Bethungra cemetery.
