TUMUT.
An old resident of Tumut has passed away in the person of the late Mrs. McGregor, who died on Monday at her residence, Capper-st., Tumut. She was a daughter of the late Niel Rankin, of Bombowlee, a native of the Darling, and was called Borara, after one of the stations held by her father and uncles before they came to Tumut and purchased the Bombowlee, Brungle and Wagra Estates. This was in the early fifties and the Darling properties were over one hundred miles above any other settlement, where the arrival of the first-born white babe caused such excitement that the aboriginals came from all quarters to see the child. Mrs. McGregor received her education at the Misses Hayes College, Melbourne, and on returning from school she married Mr. D. McGregor, manager of Messrs Rankin Bros.' Ballandry Station, on the Merool, who was a son of Mr. John McGregor, Inverness Factor to Lord Abinger. She came of a military family. Her grandfather was Captain R. McDonald, 19th Regiment. Six grand uncles were officers in the British army, and the seventh was a doctor. Her cousins were the late Colonel George McDonald, British East Indian Co. Service, Captain Ronald, of 28th, Colonel Reginald McDonald, 4th Regi ment, Captain John McDonald, R.N. The late N. A. McGregor, who was so well known and esteemed in British East Africa, and had done so much to raise the wool standard in that country, was her son. The funeral took place on Tuesday, the remains being interred in the Roman Catholic portion of the old cemetery,Rev. Fr. G. Stapleton officiating at the grave, and Mr. H. W. Baker carrying out the family arrangements. A sorrowing husband and family of two sons (John and James) and one daughter mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother.
