Another melancholy suicide took place at Tumut on Saturday. Mrs. Charles Foord, a young married woman, who has several little children, the youngest being an infant only three months old, has been for some time prostrated by illness. She was carefully watched and attended by her husband, but at daylight, taking advantage of his absence from her bedroom for a few minutes, she rose from her sick bed, left the room, got through an open window, and threw herself head foremost down a well 12 feet deep. Only a few moments elapsed when Mr. Foord discovered what she had done, and then without an instant's hesitation he leaped down into the well to the poor woman's assistance. On raising her to the surface, a matter of much difficulty, it was found that she was dead.
