The Tumut and Adelong Times 23 Nov 1923
Deaths The death occurred on Wednesday morning, at 5 a.m., of Mr. Charles Foord, at the home of his sister, Mrs Hargreaves. His age was 74 years. The cause of death was heart trouble which became noticable in July last, since when he had been practically bed-ridden, suffering severely towards the end, save for the attention of the doctors in alleviating the pain. Deceased was the second eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Foord, old pioneers of this district. Other members of the family are: Harry (deceased) Frank (Tumut), Mrs Timmis (Gunning) Mrs G. Groves (Sydney), Edward (deceased), William (Tumut) Arthur (W.A.), Mrs Thomas Webb (Tumut), Mrs Pember and Percy (Culcairn). The subject of this obituary married a daughter of the late Mr. Clout (father of Messrs Geo. and William, of this town), and his wife predeceased him by some years. Members of the family are: Mrs A. Sturt (Tumut), Mrs. Hargreaves (Bombowlee), Walter (Bowral), Mrs Harrington (Bowral). One child died in infancy. Death came as a happy release to deceased, who, perhaps had been called upon to suffer more than a fair share of this world's troubles. The remains were interred on Thursday in the Anglican portion of the old cemetry alongside those of his late wife. Rev. McKeown officiated at the graveside.

Hargreaves), "Wood Vale," Mundongo, at 5 o'clock on Wednesday morning, another link in the chain connecting the early his story of this district with the present,in the person of Mr. Charles Foord, a native of Tumut, aged 73 years, his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Francis Foord sr., having come here 80 years ago. Several months since, deceased fractured his thigh, and after two months' treatment in the Tumut Hospital was able to get about on crutches. He then went to reside with his daughter at "Wood Vale." Up till a fortnight ago he was "still going strong," but heart trouble and dropsy manifested themselves and ultimately caused death.
Deceased was a fine stamp of Australian manhood, standing over 6ft. in height, and a finely built stalwart. He married Miss Anna Clout, sister of Mr. Geo. Clout sr., of Richmond-st., Tumut, and to them were born five children, the first one dying in infancy. The survivors are : Amy Lilian Jane (Mrs. Arthur Sturt), Walter Francis Cecil (Bowral), Clara Mabel (Mrs.Hargreaves) and Martha Caroline (Mrs. Frank Hetherington, Bowral). His wife predeceased him many years ago. There were 13 in the family to which he belonged, eight of whom are living, viz : Francis (Tumut), William (Bombowlee), Arthur H. (West Australia), Percy, Mrs. Wm. Timmis (Croydon), Mrs. Geo. Groves (New town, Sydney). The funeral took place yesterday, the remains leaving "Wood Vale" for the Church of England portion of the Tumut old cemetery. It was a large cortege that paid their last tribute to his memory. Rev. K. L. McKeown officiated at the grave.
